Face Proportions High School Art
In this assignment, I started out with the kids measuring eachother's faces. We added up all of our measurements, then averaged them out. I then had the kids draw a face according to the measurements they had observed.

Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man High School Art
For this assignment, I had my studio art class (mostly 9th graders) copy Leonardo Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man, and then modify him however they want, or keep him like he is.

Paper Cut-Out High School Self-Portrait Art
For this assignment, I had them (10th and 11th graders) do a self-portrait, looking in a mirror, with torn brown paper pasted onto white paper. After they had their face basically rendered, I had them make it interesting, however they wanted with whatever material.

Iraq War Art by Steve Mumford
While cruising artnet.com today, I found this and thought I should post it:
"The artist Steve Mumford originally went to Baghdad in 2003 to work as a war artist, embedded with the U.S. military, both writing a journal and making drawings and watercolors of what he saw there. In early 2007 he returned to Iraq for approximately a month, where he worked at an army hospital. This is the second of three reports on that trip."
