Still-Life Drawing High School Art

I got an idea for teaching how to draw using contour lines. I pasted graph paper onto a cylinder and box and drew grids onto fabric and a sphere so they could see exactly where each contour was. I think it helped.

Photoshop Rubber Stamp Assignment High School Art

This is the photo I am giving my photography students for their first assignment. They need to clean it up. I hope the family pictured doesn't mind.

Erik Pyka Sketchbook High School Art

These are recent excerpts from the sketchbook of sophomore Erik Pyka. His style appears to be copied by many contemporary artists today.

Second Generation Mission School High School Painting

For this assignment in Painting, we looked at work from Paul Wackers, Dan Tierney, and Keegan McHargue. They were given three weeks to paint their own object-abstraction with acrylic on canvas. The painting below nailed it.

Rainbow High School Art

Just before classes started this morning, everyone was looking at a full rainbow over the school. I took a few shots and awkwardly put them together in photoshop.

Face Proportions High School Art

For two days, I had my Art Theory 1 kids measure each others facial features. We averaged all of our measurings up on the chalk board and put those markings on a separate piece of paper. I then went over how to draw each facial feature and they plugged into their drawing a unique face using the average proportions. I hope that made sense.

Music Video High School Art

The Film Studies class did just finish their music videos. This video is by Senior, Gable Baze and features Pinewood's own rock star, Grant Pierce singing his song, Kid #2 and the Green Stone Necklace. To see more music videos go here.

Documentary High School Art

My film class finished their documentaries over a month ago and I forgot to post them. This particular documentary was done by Senior, Adam Ottke and is about our librarian, Karen Hall. To see more of them, go here.

2-Point Perspective High School Art

Please excuse the poor digital images. I did not have access to the good light that hour.
I went over 2-point perspective with my Art Theory 1 kids, and then they had about 2 weeks to do whatever they wanted to do with their perfect rectangles. As you can see, only one student put enough value on his drawing so their was no need to mess with levels in Photoshop.

Film Review High School Art

I have my film class kids watch one movie a week from a pre-selected list and write a 1/2 page review of them. Here is one of my favorites.
